Every Step of the Way What you can't see, is built with as much care as what you can.
Every piece we make is built from scratch in our Shropshire workshop. Designed, crafted, and finished by people who understand that the small details are what elevate the whole. We work with time-honoured joinery techniques, premium material and refined finishes, not to chase trends but to ensure that what we build today still works beautifully tomorrow.
Inset Frame Cabinetry. Our inset frame cabinetry is made using solid steamed beech which is a hardwood, a material prized for its strength, stability, and ability to hold a painted finish. It pairs beautifully with our premium primers and paint systems, giving you a crisp, durable surface with enduring character.
Real Timber & Wood Veneers . For clients who love the honesty of natural wood, we offer real wood veneers on 19mm crown-cut panels, sealed and lacquered to a soft 20% sheen. This allows the grain to speak, not loudly but with quiet confidence.
Modern Materials - Egger & Kronospan Decorative Panels. Where a more contemporary aesthetic is called for, we work confidently with decorative boards. Durable, sustainable, and surprisingly versatile, these panels are available in finishes that echo stone, slate, metal and textured wood grains. We’ve used them in our own home and in the Mark James studio and we trust them. They’re a smart option for home offices, dressing rooms, and modern kitchens where clean lines meet lasting performance.
Built to Endure. Every cabinet is made with longevity in mind. Joints are reinforced for strength. Interiors are finished to the same standard as exteriors. And we don’t rely on shortcuts or excessively large fillers. We use Blum soft-close runners and hinges as standard for drawers and doors, but are equally happy to fit traditional butt hinges where a classic aesthetic is preferred. On occasion, we’ve combined both, using hidden Blum mechanisms for functionality, while adding non-working butt hinges externally for period charm. We call these sacrificial butts — a Mark James invention, purely visual and entirely bespoke. It’s a small example of the lengths we’ll go to in balancing performance with character.
Craftsmanship - Recognised. We’re proud to be members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, an organisation that recognises skill, integrity, and ongoing commitment to quality. It’s not a badge we take lightly, but one that reflects the care, precision and pride we bring to every stage of our work.
